A former Green Mercy Hospital administrator has been sentenced to six months in county jail for possessing child pornography, court records show.

Marc Elliot Sussman was arrested in May 2017 on multiple counts of possession of obscene material involving a victim under the age of 17. He pleaded guilty on the charges in December 2018, according to court records.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Laura Petro Tuesday ordered Sussman to serve six months in county jail, followed by three years of supervised probation, including one year of electronic monitoring. He will also be subject to the registration and notification requirements under state law. Sussman will be restricted from using a computer or having internet access for one year after his release, court records show.

Sussman's May 18, 2017, arrest was part of a statewide operation targeting possession, production and dissemination of child pornography called Operation Standing Guard, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

He previously served as the Health Services Project Manager at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services, where worked since 2003, according to his LinkedIn biography.

Tommy Spina represented Sussman and said they are satisfied with the sentence. "We believe the sentence to be fair, reasonable and sufficient. The real culprit that, I wish the public and the media would focus on, are the 'googles' of the world who allow this sort of material to continue to be accessed via internet." Spina said. "I'm certain they have the technology to shut it down but continue to allow it. That's where investigators should direct their energy."
